Rachel Hector is a writer, researcher, and grants professional with over 12 years of experience in the nonprofit sector. Rachel holds a Master’s degree in Public Administration (MPA) and nonprofit management from the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC).
She began her career in museums, art galleries, and arts and cultural institutions, where she held member/patron facing roles. The organizations she was a part of had a strong focus on uplifting marginalized artists and voices, particularly those from Black, Indigenous, and LGBTQI+ backgrounds in the local Chicago area.
Rachel's work also extended to social service agencies, where she served as an educator and program coordinator, primarily working with refugee and immigrant services programs, specifically in refugee resettlement. It was through this work that she ventured into grants, providing fundraising and grant coordination support to human rights nonprofits dedicated to offering critical services to historically disenfranchised communities. Rachel maintains a deep passion for human rights, social justice, and anti-racist projects, ideologies, and activities.
Rachel spends her free time making art, reading, playing “cozy” video games, and traveling with her friends and family.
